Ingredients
- 1 cup Butter (salted)
- 1 cup Brown Sugar (Packed)
- 1/2 cup Almonds (slivered) (Toasted)
- 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (Gluten-Free)
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 teaspoon Sea Salt (Flaky)
- 2 tablespoons Water
- 1 tablespoon Almond Flour
- 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
Instructions
- 1
Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- 2
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the butter browns and has a nutty aroma. This will take about 5-7 minutes.
- 3
Stir in the brown sugar, water, almond flour, cornstarch and baking soda into the browned butter. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil.
- 4
Continue boiling, stirring constantly, for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard-crack stage) on a candy thermometer. If you don't have a thermometer, test by dropping a small amount into cold water; it should form hard, brittle threads.
- 5
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- 6
Immediately pour the toffee mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it into a thin, even layer.
- 7
Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee. Let them sit for a minute to soften, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee.
- 8
Sprinkle the toasted almonds and sea salt over the chocolate.
- 9
Let the toffee cool completely at room temperature, or chill in the refrigerator for faster setting.
- 10
Once the toffee is set, break it into pieces and serve.
Tips & Notes
- •Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to prevent the toffee from scorching.
- •Monitor the toffee closely while it's boiling to prevent it from burning. Constant stirring is key!
