Ingredients
- 1 lb Beef sirloin or flank steak (thinly sliced against the grain)
- 3 cups Fresh Thai basil leaves (loosely packed)
- 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
- 2-4 Thai chilies (finely chopped (adjust to your spice preference))
- 1/2 Red bell pepper (thinly sliced)
- 1/2 Onion (thinly sliced)
- 3 tbsp Coconut aminos (or gluten-free soy sauce)
- 1 tbsp Fish sauce
- 1 tsp Brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Oyster sauce (gluten-free)
- 1 tsp Sesame oil
- 2 tbsp Avocado oil (or other high-heat oil)
- 1/4 tsp Ground white pepper
- Cooked rice (for serving)
Instructions
- 1
In a small bowl, whisk together coconut aminos (or gluten-free soy sauce), fish sauce, brown sugar, gluten-free oyster sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper. This is your sauce.
- 2
Heat avocado oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat until shimmering.
- 3
Add the sliced beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until browned. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
- 4
Add the minced garlic and chopped chilies to the wok and stir-fry for about 30 seconds, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- 5
Add the sliced onion and red bell pepper to the wok and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, until slightly softened.
- 6
Return the cooked beef to the wok. Pour the sauce over the beef and vegetables and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes, until the sauce has thickened slightly and everything is well combined.
- 7
Remove the wok from the heat and stir in the fresh Thai basil leaves until wilted.
- 8
Serve immediately over cooked rice. Garnish with extra basil leaves if desired.
Tips & Notes
- •For spicier Thai Basil Beef, add more Thai chilies or a pinch of red pepper flakes.
- •Use a very hot wok or skillet to ensure the beef browns properly and the vegetables stay crisp-tender.
- •Don't overcook the beef, or it will become tough. Quick stir-frying is key.
