Ingredients

  • 4 medium Apples (Gala, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Ginger
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • 1 tablespoon Maple Syrup (optional)
  • as needed Coconut Oil Spray (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. 2

Wash and thoroughly dry the apples.

  3. 3

Using a mandoline slicer or a very sharp knife, thinly slice the apples (about 1/16 inch thick).

  4. 4

In a large bowl, gently toss the apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning. Add vanilla extract if desired.

  5. 5

In a small bowl, combine cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and brown sugar (if using).

  6. 6

Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over the apple slices. Toss gently to coat.

  7. 7

Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Avoid overcrowding.

  8. 8

Spray lightly with coconut oil, if desired.

  9. 9

Bake for 1.5-2 hours, flipping the apple slices halfway through, until they are crispy and slightly browned. Cooking time may vary depending on your oven and the thickness of the slices.

  10. 10

Let the apple chips cool completely on the baking sheets before serving. They will crisp up as they cool.

Tips & Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cardamom or allspice to the spice mixture.
  • Store the cooled apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. They may lose some crispness over time.
  • Watch the apples closely during the last 30 minutes of baking to prevent burning.
