Ingredients
- 4 medium Apples (Gala, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
- 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon Ground Ginger
- 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
- 1 tablespoon Maple Syrup (optional)
- as needed Coconut Oil Spray (optional)
- 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract (optional)
Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- 2
Wash and thoroughly dry the apples.
- 3
Using a mandoline slicer or a very sharp knife, thinly slice the apples (about 1/16 inch thick).
- 4
In a large bowl, gently toss the apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning. Add vanilla extract if desired.
- 5
In a small bowl, combine cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and brown sugar (if using).
- 6
Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over the apple slices. Toss gently to coat.
- 7
Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Avoid overcrowding.
- 8
Spray lightly with coconut oil, if desired.
- 9
Bake for 1.5-2 hours, flipping the apple slices halfway through, until they are crispy and slightly browned. Cooking time may vary depending on your oven and the thickness of the slices.
- 10
Let the apple chips cool completely on the baking sheets before serving. They will crisp up as they cool.
Tips & Notes
- •For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cardamom or allspice to the spice mixture.
- •Store the cooled apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. They may lose some crispness over time.
- •Watch the apples closely during the last 30 minutes of baking to prevent burning.
